My own family is scattered across the US, we see each other perhaps once or twice a year.
Spending time with my cousins trumps anything on TV, although the men turn the football games on later in the day.
Besides, who has time to watch TV?
I have to cook.
My family all lives under one roof. I see my extended family a lot. Probably a few times per week. I have time to watch TV AND cook. I'm awesome like that.
The only tradition the Macys parade has fostered is mindless buying of crap.
Love posts like this. As if you are so above consumerism and buying retail items that you were introduced to via marketing and advertising. Get over yourself.

You live in a commune?
It would be rather hard to have everyone of my family under one roof, as there are about 60 of us.
Yeah, I have time to watch TV and cook, but why would one do that?
I prefer to pay attention to the food, as I actually care what it tastes and looks like.

Because I like to? I've been cooking for 20 years. Got it down to a science. Mr. Mags ain't complaining and neither are the Baby Mags'. And we have only us here for Thanksgiving - me, DH and the boys. It's quite relaxing to sit around all day eating, drinking wine and not having to deal with 60 people.
Why you must be so nasty to others about how they spend their holiday is beyond me. So hateful. SMH
Since the parade ends at 34th Street, which is very far away from Wall Street, it probably will go on as planned.
See, how is easy that is!
I don't think the parade will be cancelled but it is conceivable that the cost associated with the police overtime because of the protests would eat into the budget.

Apparently you have never seen the faces of young children watching the balloons go down the street. Children from NYC and surrounding areas can enjoy this for free.

As a matter of fact there are people that purchase items that are not shoved down their throats buy mass marketing, mind manipulation techniques...and getting back to the subject at hand...I don't think that grotesquely large helium filled cartoon characters best represents what Thanksgiving is supposed to be about...(which in reality was the signal that set off the annihilation of countles Native American people)...a subject for another thread.
Maybe the protestors on Wall Street would appreciate the opportunity to feel thankful, when the hope of the American Dream is restored for the average person.
NY is a pretty big place, you don't know those wackos are there when you are a block away from the park. Parade goers will not even know they exist.
