How is this hypocrisy? Did Occupy Wall Street ask Ben and Jerry's to support them, or is this unsolicited support?
For years, B&J imaged themselves as non-corporate and highlighted how "local" and "small-company" they were - then sold out to a Wall Street firm for big $$$$.
Wonder when Tom Chapelle (who sold out Tom's of Maine to Colgate-Palmolive for big $$$$$) will "lend his support"???
What is your point...Oh you think protestors are against all companies. I see why you are confused. That is just not true. I am glad we can move on now.
Here is one thing to like about Ben and Jerry's and where you can see the commonalities between Ben and Jerry's and the protestors.
Ben & Jerry’s Foundation. Part of Ben & Jerry’s commitment to social and economic justice is our support of the Ben & Jerry’s Foundation, which makes grants to grassroots activists making positive change in their own communities. Through the Foundation, we’re helping immigrant workers, neighborhood groups, farm workers and dozens of other groups around the country to get organized and fight for a fair deal. In 2011, Ben & Jerry’s contributed $2,180,808 to the Foundation based on the 2010 sales of the Company.
Apparently, you are unfamiliar with Ben and Jerry's and for some reason you believe that the OWP's are against all corporations.
Do you know who Unilever is?
Quote:
On August 3, 2000, Ben & Jerry's was acquired by Unilever, a British-Dutch food company with distribution in 100 countries. Many of our customers have been understandably concerned that the change in ownership does not signal a change in our mission. We are happy to assure you that Unilever supports the guiding principles that have been fundamental to our business from the beginning: to look for innovative ways to improve the quality of life of the community in every business decision that we make.

With more than 400 brands focused on health and wellbeing, no company touches so many people’s lives in so many different ways.
Our portfolio ranges from nutritionally balanced foods to indulgent ice creams, affordable soaps, luxurious shampoos and everyday household care products. We produce world-leading brands including Lipton, Knorr, Dove, Axe, Hellmann’s and Omo, alongside trusted local names such as Blue Band, Pureit and Suave.
Just wondering if this is one of those Global companies that stealing jobs from the bums camped out on wall street. They can't even get jobs serving ice cream.

Still trying to figure out how unsolicited support of OWS tells us anything about OWS. Ben and Jerry's is cynically trying to cash in on a growing movement. The Democrats have been trying to shoehorn their way in too. This doesn't really mean anything re: those who are actually in Zuccotti Park or at other movements.
