I did, as well. I'll reiterate my stance, in case you missed it: *I* would never deface/burn/desecrate the flag. I will ALWAYS support someone else's right to do so, if they choose. That is, IMO, one of the things that makes our country great and worth defending.

I think it is a shame that some people have forgotten the value of being a Renaissance Man. I completely agree that formal education alone doesn't make someone a complete person, but that's a far cry from the kind of anti-education, anti-intellectual stuff I'm hearing from the extreme Right these days.

We should always be suspicious of people who try to discourage us from knowing things.
I was not arguing against education. I am just trying to point out that education takes many forms. I once read Mein Kampf.
I think it made me understand a bit about Hitler, but I don't know if it was worth the time to read it.

Just because something is written, doesn't always mean it is right, or relevent

Not all education is like red-state high school.

Did you not read my full post.. one must go further and one will make nonsense or sense.. does everyone who performs independent research get an A plus.. it depends on their ability of their thinking skills to what their conclusions are.

Of course it was! Time spent reading even a crappy book is not time wasted.

Understandable. Also understand that I've been in both academia and the real world, and I have a healthy DISRESPECT for professional academics.

That's not a slam on formal education, it's a slam on bad teachers.
