All of these threads about him being gay is beside the point. He plead guilty and was not honest with the people of Idaho regarding that incident.
And to make matters worse, despite pleading guilty, he has the nerve (or something else perhaps from that restroom) to blame the Idaho newspaper for his pleading guilty and his concealing that fact.
if the Statesman newspaper is to blame it's that it didn't catch such a basic police station beat story and only reported what it had compiled after the DC press reported on the airport incident.
Craig might have some sympathy if he didn't take this ridiculous route, but now that he has, the corrupt homophobic GOP must throw him away quickly. After all he's no Vitter. He's got to go.
issues like this test the faith of people when voting republican... I don't claim to be republican or democrat.. I'm what you would call a swing voter, although I usually do side with democrats on most social issues.. there are things like gun control and immigration that I agree with republicans...
The greater issue is... these parties BOTH want to draw lines and divide the country into thinking blue and red, rather than looking at all the issues individually and then weighing in what is important. This creates loyalties to a particular party. Now with hypocracy so blantant and so off the charts its sickening.. when people who are swing voters think of voting republican I wonder if they're going to think in the back of their mind.. "this guy says things I like and stand for.. but who is this guy really deep down and is he really what he says he is" thats the problem these scandals create.
Democrats have their scandals which have been noted, but nothing compares to the hypocracy of this man, and foley and the evangelist preacher a few months back.. its just quite a big blow to voters minds given the divide people have been used to thinking down (red or blue)
will be interesting to see what happens here in idaho as well as nationally come 2008.
I hope Senator Craig has the gunption to resist all the forces trying to make him resign. He made a mistake pleading guilty without counsel. I think he should be allowed to change that plea. If he is up for re-election I hope he runs again.
Why would the Minneapolis courts let a Senator, or anyone, change a plea that they made in sound mind? No one forced him to plea, he denied his right to an attorney, Sen. Craig was not held at gunpoint and made to plea. It would set a dangerous legal precedent and tarnish the already bad reputation of the Senate.
