Even if you want to excuse/justify the Judge because you were beaten as a child, and/or abuse your own children, using physical violence against children almost INEVITABLY leads to escalation. Children WILL disobey their parents, because they are human, and biology forces them to grow up and separate from their parents. You CAN'T change that fact, no matter how much you torture them. Simple spankings turn into whippings with a belt. Belt whippings turn into beatings. Beatings turn into murders. Child abusers get VERY creative; enough to turn your stomach. They didn't start out that way. They ESCALATE to these levels.
I'm sure all the young children who were tortured to death by their parents had done something to displease them. Would those of you who keep blaming the victim in this case think those murders were justified, also?
America pays for the fact that some parents act like vicious thugs toward their own families: "about 900,000 children are the victims of child abuse and neglect in the United States each year, which result in about 1,500 deaths."
Child Abuse Statistics - Keep Kids Healthy *More than five children die every day as a result of child abuse. Approximately 80% of children that die from abuse are under the age of 4. About 30% of abused and neglected children will later abuse their own children. The estimated annual cost of child abuse and neglect in the United States for 2007 is $104 billion. Children who experience child abuse & neglect are 59% more likely to be arrested as a juvenile, 28% more likely to be arrested as an adult, and 30% more likely to commit violent crime."
