And that's a problem b/c when a mess like happens the US image is stuck with it. I'm not going to call the mercs 'loose canons'(strange b/c a lot of them are ex-military). But a lot of them are not as strictly bound by the rules as we were. Big Army puts a lot of emphasis on human life/casualties and damage control. Mishaps equals bad press which equals the USA being hated even more. Especially after the prison Abu Ghraib fiasco. Blackwater Guards deserve fair trial HOWEVER, I don't think immunity should have ever been considered.
I want to know how we can have a bigger military than the next dozen largest nations combined, and still cant find 100,000 men to go into a war. Why do we pay Blackwater instead of asking our military to do what we pay it for? Oh, I remember, PRIVITAZATION
Look at what they pay private security (mercenaries) v. what they pay the soldier. Says a whole lot right there.
Who do they value more? Who is cannon fodder?
