Of course they can, and do so. I am all for liberals participating in abortion. There is an interesting thought originated by the author of "Freakonomics" which suggests that the initiation of abortion is THE FACTOR that has resulted in reduction in crime in the US. If future democrats and criminals are being aborted, that is perfectly fine with me.

This thread is just like so many others on this forum. Conservatives and liberals pointing out a flaw in the other's ideology without acknowledging that same flaw in theirs. "Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?" (Matthew 7:3) No serious debate can be had until it is acknowledged that both parties try to take away some freedoms.

Conservative Ideology

-Prevent people from marrying whomever they choose, regardless of sexual orientation.
-Prevent people who engage in homosexual activity from joining the military.
-Almost half of conservatives in Mississippi believe interracial marriage should be illegal.
-Support government surveillance and intrusion into our personal lives in the name of fighting terror.
-Want to prevent women who have been impregnated by rape or incest from having an early, first trimester abortion.
-Prevent people from building religious institutions in certain areas (New York mosque).
-Prevent people from registering to vote on the same of an election.
-Conservatives overwhelming support Blue Laws which prevent people from buying alcohol on Sundays.
-Prevent the production, distribution and personal use of pornography.
-Prevent people from being able to smoke marijuana in the privacy of their own homes.

I'm an old hippie liberal, and I detest the religious right and their nasty habits.

Which do you think is worse, "Liberals" and "Big Government" trying to regulate your daily life and babysit you, or "Conservatives" and "Small Governments" trying to regulate your morality and tell you what is "right" and what is "wrong"?
Being a recovering fundamentalist (as reared), I have neither fear nor regard for another man's morality.

As a libertarian (post recovery), I loathe big government.

I am non-religious, but I'm hard pressed to think of any strictures that Christian conservatives have forced on me. Maybe the fact that 'God' is in the pledge and on my coins, but that doesn't bug me enough to keep me from spending them.

OTOH I can think of scores of restrictions from the nannyist left, especially here in blue (nose) Washington state. We've had an ongoing War on Adult Entertainment here in WA for the last decade, all conducted by liberal democrats. Barely a peep from R's who are all but non existent here. Our Dem Gov Gregoire banned on-line gambling, opposed a move to privatize liquor stores (she recently lost that one), banned the use of cell phones in cars (except by police), vetoed efforts to decriminalize pot, and led a crusade against tobacco. Enacted bunches of 'sin' taxes to raise money for the state. All with not one thump of one Bible.

This is why nobody takes the right seriously. This is why people FEAR coming to America. Apparently having the ideology which brought the rest of the developed world into fruition, even competition with the USA is something okay to be killed for.

Hitler-esque, of you.

All you care about is legalization of marijuana and endless social program for the poor which equals nothing but redistribution of yours and everyone else's wealth. Legal weed would be cool but that has nothing to do with the religious right. You can ignore them but the government can put you in jail if they want. I guess you can wear your Che T-shirt and occupy anything for no good reason at all as long as you get to hang out with other old hippies and corrupt the minds of the young kids who blindly think they are doing something any more effective than signing online petitions.

When was the last time you said OMG? That trips most of you up. Saying 'go to hell', 'god damn' or 'jesus christ' should trip you up as well because you admit to the existence of such.

Speaking of nasty habits...those liberals sure have it going on, right?

Goodness. You certainly sound angry for someone that dug up a two year old thread and resurrected it.

Yea sure, individuals regulating their lives. Obviously you didn't hear about the blacks playing the knock out game.
