I had no idea how much power Grover Norquist has, something like 230 congressmen have signed the pledge. No wonder there is a impasse.

"Grover Norquist has collected pledges from many Republicans that they will not vote for a hike of any kind. In an interview airing Sunday on CBS’s “60 Minutes,” the head of the Americans for Tax Reform makes it clear he’s proud of his role firing up anti-tax fervor in Washington.
“The Republicans won’t raise your taxes. We haven’t had a Republican vote for an income tax increase since 1990,” he told Steve Kroft."

Why? Because being fair is about being fair... stealing was wrong before, wrong now, and will still be wrong in the future... I don't buy the "better for humanity" propaganda crap... it's not because of one man... its because I don't like being stolen from and I wouldn't expect someone else to feel any better about it...

I'm glad the GOP is taking the no tax increases approach. I'm pretty sure Republicans are tired of "read my lips, no new taxes" and lying about it

I call that BS... why, cause when old taxes were high, they were aimed towards multimillionaires... when taxes where 70%, they were targeted at incomes of a half a million or whatever... bring that to today's income, that is mufti-millions... but that isn't what liberals are asking for is it? Its one thing to tell half-truths and it is one thing to be deliberately being deceptive about the subject...

I'm not a Republican, but there is no need to raise taxes on anybody. Our bloated government does not need more money. In fact, we should reduce federal taxes.

More federal taxes will just encourage more wasted spending.

Taxes need to be reduced but there also needs to be some reasonable conversation, signing a contract with a PAC is not why many of these representatives were voted into office. Although the financial backing of Norquist is what put them in office they are there to represent their consituents. I would love to know who the backers are of this group.

I am going to make an educated guess here. You are a working professional who is in the highest income bracket and the majority of your income comes from the work that you do and not capital gains. You would be o.k. with the guys making a million a year in income paying the same percentage that you do? I would too. You ...and I, are in the group that is getting stuck the hardest.
