This is the sort of minor, niggling detail that will escape most folks in the U.S., save those who still believe the 9/11 terrorists entered the country from Canada. And it’s not nearly so bad as when Cain professed happy ignorance of who the leader of “Uzbeki-beki-beki-beki-stan” was, or what exactly the U.S. did in Libya, or that Cubans speak Spanish, not Cuban.

But still, it’s worth getting on the record what Cain feels about America’s neighbour to the north. No surprise, he’s for the Keystone XL pipeline and says President Obama’s decision to delay the $7 billion project is “no way to treat a friend”:

Canada: Friend and Ally
Canada is our nation’s closest friend and ally. We share the world’s longest undefended border and we have common cultural roots. We have stood together during both World Wars and in Afghanistan and Iraq. Our North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) has watched over our collective skies for over 50 years. Canada is our top trading partner, and our most important source of oil to supplement our own production. The Obama administration’s failure to move forward with the Keystone XL Pipeline from Alberta to U.S. refineries will force Canada to seek other markets – namely China – and will degrade continental energy security. As is the case regarding Mexico, Mr. Cain believes that “Security begins at home” – and that the Keystone XL pipeline debacle is no way to treat a friend.
Cain is a little tougher on Mexico, which is a friend “in need” that is facing “impending disaster” and therefore is just a partner, not ally. A surprise, likely to President Felipe Calderon, who Obama feted with his very own State Dinner in 2010, while Prime Minister Stephen Harper had a hard time getting a face-to-face with the president on the big border deal. (Germany and Japan also get the “friend and ally” treatment from Cain.

Great Britain has a “special relationship” tag.

This is where it gets confusing for Canadians and Brits. Canada is America’s “closest friend and ally,” says Cain, while Britain is the U.S.’s “closest ally for nearly two centuries.” I guess the older you are, the better America likes you?

Venezuela is an “adversary regime,” under Cain’s rating system. Egypt presents “danger and opportunity,” as does Pakistan. Russia is a “rival,” while China is a “competitor.”

What Cain’s map could really use, just to get hawkish Republicans going, is an actual “enemy” of the United States. Even Iran and North Korea don’t rise to that level, both earning merely “adversary regime” tags.
As for Libya, the nation which has so confused Cain in the past? There is “clarity needed” on that front.

Got to laugh that Mexico gets a full state dinner and Canada has trouble just getting a quick face to face talk with Obama as to why the keystone XL was put off and if he gets Re-Elected where he stands with a new Route.

But agreed that Obama and Harper not even having a 10 minute face to face sit down over the issue and what his views are on the where the new pipeline will cross through and if he is he ok with it so we can make adjustments... but not even talking to us is no way to treat a friend.

Got to laugh that Obama dodges talking to Canada at all of these G8 and G20 summits and all the heads of state attended UN and NATO meetings because all Canada wants atleast some valid reasons as to why we both can't work together to find a better route to get the Project going and get some input on what else we can do to help get things moving.

It sounds like both our countries are married for a very long time and Canada is getting the silent treatment

we just want to know where it went all wrong and how to fix it and is that how all future projects will be decided and to hear the honest awnsers.

Also Cain is Wrong on Canada going to Iraq offically because the way it went down was 06-09 Canada and the Britsh forces took over for the US combat Role on the ground so the US tropp surge could happen and we took over in in the Kabul and khandahar porvinces in Afghanistan with US airsupport.
