House Republicans look to

"Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.), the lead sponsor of the Stop TSA's Reach in Policy (STRIP) Act, said that TSA has essentially allowed its airport screeners to play dress-up by giving them metal badges and police-like uniforms in recent years. But she said many airport screeners have no "officer" qualifications, and should have this title removed."

Good!! Hopefully this is just the first step in reining in this bloated, out of control agency.

Great news, but I doubt it will go anywhere. We're talking about a senate that just passed a bill to declare the entire US a "battle field" and give the military carte blanche martial law police powers over anyone the Attorney General decides is a "terrorist".

Fire them all and let airlines handle their own security (which will in turn be paid for by those who use their services rather than the entire taxpaying populace).

This is stupid and shortsighted, and the typical right wing attack on civil servants.

In fact, why do Republicans run for office if they hate federal workers so much? They sure do work hard as hell to remain federal workers as long as they can. And why doesn't this idiot look to strip some of her Congressional benefits...like her Mercedes Benz healthcare, instead of stripping 10 dollar badges from screeners?

She's just looking down the road...if they remove the badges, the next step is to try to phase them out and turn the function over to her contracting pals that have surely been trying to lobby congress to take over this task. For hundreds of millions of course. It's the Republican Dream.

In general, our military will not blindly obey orders they feel are wrong. But Democrats are going to quake in fear when a Republican is president.

You are discussing two different issues entirely. I don't think this is about "hating" federal workers. I think it's about trying to curb the power-trip that many TSA agents always seem to be on.

Anyone who has flown more than a few times since the TSA was established knows that there are plenty of TSA agents who are incredibly arrogant.

Let's just leave things as they are: 85 year old women getting strip searched, toddlers getting patted down and Xrayed, breast milk getting "screened" for whatever the hell reason. Intrusive pat downs that were they done on the street would get you a charge of sexual assault. Horse crap, this gang of thugs has had carte blanche for too long. This is a good first step.

You wanted to feel "safe". You wanted nanny government to take care of all the details for you.
All I heard over and over that first year they started doing physical patdowns was "If you did nothing wrong you have nothing to fear".

All because someone let that underwear bomber board a plane IN ANOTHER COUNTRY. The hypocrisy of it all makes me laugh every time.

Hope you flyers are enjoying that feeling of security when a GED rent-a-cop feels you up.
