Are they alike? I have heard many make the comparison. I think it's reaching to far. Nobody lost their life in the Occupy protests. I find it very offensive to use the civil rights movement as a way to justify the doings of OWS.

The biggest difference is that the civil rights movement was people dedicated to worthy, attainable goals.
The occupy movement is pointless since whatever goal they might seem to have is not ever going to happen, and the majority of participants are simply homeless using it as a place to camp, or rent-an-anarchist types looking for a little fun.
i agree with the others, the occupy movement was basically a rabble who had no idea of what they were protesting for, where as the civil rights movement knew what they wanted, and had attainable goals.

Not by a long shot, lol.
To do so would be insulting to the Civil Rights movement of the '60s. Then you had a large group of people in the underclass who had little to advantages.
Then you've got the OWS suburban kids with college educations..............
