Boehner: Obama should make Senate bargain on taxes | Latest National Headlines | News fr... (http://www.star-telegram.com/2011/12/20/3608021/boehner-obama-should-make-senate.html - broken link)
Boehner knows that a two-month tax cut will do virtually NOTHING for the economy and that a year should be the absolute minimum.
It's the Senate Democrats whose vacation is more important than actually working to help the middle class.
The payroll tax cut will not make America right. Let it expire and go to funding SS like it should.
I agree, but if you're going to have a tax cut two months does NOTHING good. At least a year would do a little more good for the economy, even if it would hurt the SS trust fund.

Our problem is spending and looking for more money to spend at the expense of a program that is already financially in trouble will not do any good. Cut your nose to spite your face. Keeping that money today will hurt us more in the long run as the largest generation started retiring this year.
The 2 months extension will be paid for and comes January it will be brought up again for the one year extension negotiation. The 2 months extension did not come with the pipeline so that's what the House Repubs wanted. Do you not think that the Dems wanted the 1 year extension? Do you remember who proposed it? Obama anyone.
I haven't read the latest and greatest on this. What is the GOP asking for in return for a 1 year extension on the payroll tax cut? That makes a difference in the dealings I believe.
