!
Let's say the hand dryer ran for 2 minutes each time.

Lets convert this 1500 number to kilowatts by dividing by 1000, to get 1.5 kilowatts.
Let's convert our time, 2 minutes. into hours by dividing by 60, so 2 minutes is 0.0333333 hours.

1.5 watts x 0.0333333 hours = 0.5KWh of energy.

Let's say energy cocst you $0.05/kiloWatt-hour.
(.05 i2 a national average)

0.05 KWh X $0.050000/kWh = $0.002500 you could run it 4 times at this rate for a Penney.
and no despoil fees or personal need to take out the trash.

1. Paper towels, even 3 paper towels, do not do the environmental damage that stupid blow dry machine does. I looked at the info on one of the things and it draws over 1500 watts of power!! That does much more environmental damage than 3 paper towels!

2. Paper towels cost less. Paper towels are a few cents each. 4 minutes of 1500 watts is probably much more.

3. If you should happen to go into the stall and do a number 2 only to discover to your horror that there is not even one square of toilet paper left, you can hold your pants up loosely and stumble to grab some paper towels to do the job. I have had to do this a few times but today I had to stumble into the women's bathroom and thanked God it was vacant because there were no paper towels for me to grab in the men's bathroom. We need a law!

there is no law and never should be against being helpless and stupid. no crime was committed. look around before you make a mess next time. or use your t shirt to clean your mess. remember you are on another's property and they are not your mommy.

Very simple solution:

Make sure the stall has toilet paper BEFORE you use it.

You're welcome.

(I hope your user name doesn't refer to your university because this is a SC type of problem.)

The OP isnt configuring the cost to fill the paper towl dispensors, the labor to ship the paper towls, the fuel used to ship the paper towls, the cost to empty the waste baskets, the environmental damage to have paper towls sit in landfills, etc..

Refilling paper towel dispensers over and over adds up to $23 per 1,000 uses, versus $1.47 for an electric dryer, according to their analysis.

I get your point, but by wanting to force businesses to put in paper towels, is as bad as the greenies trying to get them out. Let businesses do what they want with paper towels, and whatever other products they want or don't want to use.

It's due to the urinal factor. An easy one handed maneuver that does require wiping.

I was told years ago that if you encounter a restroom door like that, open the door using a paper towel (since it is pull), and then throw the papertowel on the floor near the door. After a few people do this, the establishment clues in and puts a garbage bin at the door for people who wish to remain germ free, like you and me.
