They didn't have to make a direct accusation. All they had to do was manufacture a linkage. Something along the lines of "after the shooting in Tucson, questions are being raised about the level of uncivility and hate speech coming from the extreme right." Then the mulddle-headed, logic-impaired brains of the masses of useful idiots do the rest.

In my local paper, lib columnist Joni Balter had a column out the next day crowing that "Sarah Palin is toast." The implication is clear--shooting was at least partially Palin's fault and she was going to pay a political price for her role in it.

But to answer the OP, they will never admit nor apologize. The same lunacy that made the accusation possible in the first place also makes it easy to forget about the whole lunatic episode

Not a chance. Chances are extremely good that they'll bring it up again in the 2012 campaign season.

And there you go, didn't take long for them to keep it up. The left will never admit they were wrong or that they had just as much to do with creating the situation as anyone else.

Oh and Frozenyo, the word you're looking for is "inciting".

You may not be.

So much for "the left" being adults.

And moronic phonies, take Biden for instance, are the ones most guilty, usually can't spell inciting.

First, neither the left nor the right is some kind of unitary mind like you see on Star Trek. Neither of them are the borg. There's no one "left" just like there's no one "tea party". Expecting an apology from millions of people who have somewhat similar views is sort of childish.

Any President would have been calling for civility when democratically elected figures are being shot in the street.

In terms of Ms. Palin, it wasn't just the left that were unhappy with her....

When you have not very intelligent people who are public figures, they sometimes forget the overall implications of what they do. Stirring the pot like she did was unacceptable. If they had nothing to apologize for, then they wouldn't have taken it down.

No one on either side of the aisle should have been upset about crosshairs. There exists more than one type of crosshairs, like a surveyor uses and like a rifleman may use. In this instance it was so typical of the left that hates the honorable Palin because both parties have used crosshairs in the past.
