So, Nancy Reagan was a woman of "the people". She was a First Lady during an economic downturn. What about Barbara Bush, Hillary Clinton, Laura Bush...no problem with these First Ladies traveling via private jet. And I suspect that there will not be an issue with the next (White) First Lady traveling via private jet, either.
The only reason that people like yourself have an issue with Michelle Obama is because Black people (no matter theie position) should not have more/do more/live better/etc than White people (even if that White person is living in a trailer park on a patch of dirt)

While America is slowly dying, tens of thousands of multi-millionaires and billionaires are living lifestyles that make the Obama's look like monks that have taken vows of poverty. Steve Jobs lived like an absolute billionaire while hundreds of thousands of his employee's made less than $3.00/dy and worked 17 hour days at that. Just stop this. Please. I am asking nicely. Believe me, if the Obama's were doing anything wrong there would be people with the authority to suggest alternative behavior. It is above yours and my pay grades to second guess how a President and First Lady conduct their lives. I don't see anyone here arguing about how Bill Gates, Warren Buffet, Ted Turner, any number of A-List celebrities and athletes live. A president doesn't make much of a salary. The perks, as far as it goes are chump change for the most powerful country ever. When did you realize the country was broke? Before or after Bush spent 12 Trillion dollars trying (and failing) to beat the snot out of enemies that only possessed a 19th Century infrastructure?

A family member was once involved in a presidential campaign in our county. A president came to town for a rally.
The secret service decided where the rally would be held, the route that was taken from the airport and the hotel where he stayed. They controlled every detail, including security checks on everybody who came within shooting distance. His campaign had no say in where anything took place. Neither did his wife. This was years ago. After 9-11, I'm sure they are even more in control.
When is the last time you've ever seen a family member of a sitting president fly commerical? It just isn't done. As ovcatto said, the Secret Service would never allow that to happen.
Maybe it's time government groups like the Secret Service joined the real world where there are LIMITS to how much you can spend. Today we have a government that spends whatever it wants, and then sends us the bill. If/when we simply don't have enough tax money to match the infinite appetites of those who don't know the value of money, they play irresponsible games to dump the debt on our children, while hoping the whole house of cards doesn't fall down during THEIR term.

When there is criticism when, and only when, Mrs. Obama does something -- something many other first ladies have done with no criticism -- one has to wonder what the motivation is. Thinking that the criticism is underlying racial bigotry certainly does come to mind.
