Ms. Obama did not write the regs.

If your not gonna allow them to buy junk food they need to raise how much money they get buy 2.5 times have you been to Whole Foods Centeral Market and Trader Joes these places are not cheap. People buy junk food because it is cheap not everyone makes $80k plus a yr people buy what they can afford.

Is this a good thing, or is it a violation of freedom and choice? Keep in mind: It's the government that will decide what is 'junk' and what is not.

There are a few people who blow a lot of food stamp money on candy at dollar stores I've personally seen this. In general, I think micromanaging food stamp purchases is not efficient or productive. For example, Washington state enacted a candy tax severak years ago and the tax was repealed quidkly because it was so unpopular. Probably because WA tried to microdefine candy, and therefore what is and is not taxable.

Specifically, items were exempt from tax if they contained wheat so for example Kit Kats were exempt while Snickers were taxed.

Instead I'd like to see broad categorites of unheathy foods (e.g. low-nutriotion foods like candy and many snacks like potato chips) restricted as a percentage. For example maybe allow 10-20 percent of food stamp benefits to be spent on those foods. e.g. $100 total you can spend $20 on unhealthy foods.
