The number of US kids and teens who die from gunshot wounds in hospital has risen almost 60% in a decade, according to a new report. The study by two doctors looked at data from 1997 to 2009, and found the number of those hospitalized with gunshot wounds rose from 4,270 to 7,730, while the number of those that then died from them climbed from 317 to 503, NBC News reports. Eight out of 10 of the wounds came from handguns, says study author Arin L. Madenci.

On the other thread about the stolen AR-15, many gun owners here argued that a gun is secure as long as it is inside a house, even if it is left on the counter, and I think that goes a long way to explain why there are so many firearm related accidents. People treat them like toys.

How many of those "teens" were involved in various types of street crime? If so, would their deaths be "accidental"?

Intentional gang shootings is one thing, but the majority of deaths and injuries involving kids and guns are accidents.

The article that was posted. I did a quick search since I'm multi-tasking right now so I admittedly didn't look far.

Whats the point here, are gun owners without children supposed to be doing something different?
