Very true...a punk will always choose their victim by the method that animals in the wild use to feed...a lion will not attack an adult healthy male hippo and take it's chance of a near certain outcome that the hippo will stomp a mudhole in the lion's ass and then proceed to walk it dry.

Same with a thug...he's not going to attack someone when there's a very likely chance that there will be crying at HIS house that night, not at the victim's.

Nonsense. There are always "reasonable restrictions". That is what Mexican officials are applying to the populace.

I don't know why people feel so much safer knowing no law abiding citizen is armed.

It's a shame two men who stood up for the community had to be dragged out of their homes and executed for them to get the point.

And by the way - the "illegal" guns are from America.
Did you look at the data? This is city data after all. Do countries with the lowest homicide rates have higher or lower rates of gun ownership. Also, do you really think that the cartel would stop carrying out executions if people had guns? The police and army have lots of guns there and they're still dying.

No. The government stepped in and shut it down to a knowledge base only type of instruction. They can field prep & triage now w/ the best medics in any Army, but can't own any firearms. Most police also are not allowed to own hi-cap pistols or full-auto rifles either. Only military and spec ops police.

Now Mexican citizens CAN own firearms, but nothing larger than .380 in pistols, larger than 12-guage (no auto shotguns), and rifles in the "military spec" weapons ammo (.30 cal, 7.62 or 5.56). .22 long are allowed, but must be a bolt action weapon.

Gun safety and shooting should be taught in every high school the same way driver's education is taught.

Exactly.

So perhaps if US didn't have such a love for guns this wouldn't be such a problem in Mexico?

They don't steal them from America. The guns are sold to them....

As drugs flow up to the US, guns flow down to Mexico.

Does that not kind of make one think that the cartels actually OWN the Mexican govt? Or am I missing something?

They've bought some, killed the rest the couldn't buy or intimidate. The law reflecting the changing of Constitutional weapons allowed has been brought to their legislature multiple times over the last 15 years. Most have ended up found on the side of the road dead.

However, starting last year the Mexican Government now will license "gun clubs" to "practice" and carry out "firearms safety seminars"...i.e....tactical training within these clubs. They are allowed to posses and train with semi-auto heavy weapons and handguns such as the FNP-45 and Glock. Most of these "gun club members" conveniently always seem to be carry the weapons to-and-from the club.

The downside...you must register and get fingerprinted to/by the government your firearms and where they're kept, who lives in the house and the names of all people in the home. You also have to surrender them on demand. The cartels...have infiltrated the local government(s) and now have that information, as well as contact information for family members.
