Do we need more proof tree-huggers are mentally unbalanced?
The EPA today denied an effort by environmentalists to ban the lead in fishing tackle.
At issue is the second half of a petition filed to EPA in August 2010 seeking to ban lead from hunting ammunition and fishing gear by the Center for Biological Diversity and the Loon Lake Loon Association.
The agency split the petition into two parts — ammunition and fishing gear. EPA denied the ammunition section in August 2010, saying it lacked the authority to regulate the bullets under the 1976 Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA). Today in the Federal Register, EPA also denied the fishing tackle portion.
ASA acknowledges that lead toxicosis can kill water birds and lead fishing tackle may contribute to this mortality. ASA recommends that before further laws are enacted to restrict lead fishing tackle on a state or national basis, sufficient data must exist to demonstrate that discarded lead tackle is an actual threat to the sustainability of loon or other waterbird populations. ASA realizes that certain waters may be "hot spots" for ingestion of fishing tackle by waterbirds and encourages any restrictions of lead fishing tackle in those waters to be based on sound science that supports the appropriate action for that water body.
Furthermore, ASA continues to encourage and support voluntary angler education programs for the responsible use and proper disposal of lead fishing tackle and urges state and federal fish and wildlife agencies to do the same.
In addition to ongoing attempts to impose a national ban on lead fishing tackle, several states and federal agencies have already implemented bans on lead fishing tackle and some other states and federal agencies are currently considering bans. Here is a current list of current and proposed bans on lead fishing tackle:

Clearly, it is not exactly a non issue. If it were not for various groups that lobby for environmental issues on behalf of the entities in nature that cannot do it for themselves, this planet would be a giant pile of crap.

The problem is those who "lobby for environmental issues" don't know how to lobby with common sense or restraint. Petitions like this do more to hurt the enviro cause than anything else.
Lead is a poisonous metal that can damage nervous connections (especially in young children) and cause blood and brain disorders. Lead poisoning typically results from ingestion of food or water contaminated with lead; but may also occur after accidental ingestion of contaminated soil, dust, or lead based paint. Long-term exposure to lead or its salts (especially soluble salts or the strong oxidant PbO2) can cause nephropathy, and colic-like abdominal pains. The effects of lead are the same whether it enters the body through breathing or swallowing. Lead can affect almost every organ and system in the body. The main target for lead toxicity is the nervous system, both in adults and children. Long-term exposure of adults can result in decreased performance in some tests that measure functions of the nervous system. It may also cause weakness in fingers, wrists, or ankles. Lead exposure also causes small increases in blood pressure, particularly in middle-aged and older people and can cause anemia. Exposure to high lead levels can severely damage the brain and kidneys in adults or children and ultimately cause death. In pregnant women, high levels of exposure to lead may cause miscarriage. Chronic, high-level exposure have shown to reduce fertility in males.

Those crazy people, wanting to ban lead from the environment.

I have not seen the petition. Can you explain why you don't agree with the contents or nature of the petition?
Is this the only post on your thread that you want to respond to?
What's the sense in responding to tree-huggers like yourself?
Ya'll KNOW THE TRUTH and no-one can respond to those who KNOW THE TRUTH...
I am positive you are so upset with the EPA's ruling that right now you are printing out a letter of dissatisfaction to send to the EPA and tomorrow will call your Congressman and Senator to voice your concern with them, right?
