And you do realize as well, that there are many gay men out there that use the term "Lesbian" as an insult in reference to other gay men ..

Why would you assume the man would be the perp?

No, I had never heard of that. But I do know that in the Deaf community, some gay men have started finger spelling the word "gay" because they don't like the feminine connotations that the sign for "gay" has (it's signed close to the same way as "lesbian"). Point is, while straight people might view gay men and lesbian as one and the same, that doesn't necessarily mean gay men and lesbians themselves always do too. It's kind of like an atheist, who might lump together Catholics, Protestants, Lutherans, Baptists, Jehovah's Witnesses, and Mormons as being all "Christians", but that doesn't mean that the Catholics, Protestants, etc. all see themselves as following the same beliefs.

If the crime was motivated by the guy's sexual orientation, then it's a hate crime. What's so hard to understand about that?

I think that type of mentality is what's "effed up".

LOL. Really? I've known thousands of gay men, and I've never once heard of any of them calling another gay guy a "lesbian" as an insult.

The bottom line is hate crime laws are unneeded.

why are bias crimes laws unneeded?
