NFL Season will kick off on Wednesday night | ProFootballTalk

The NFL is moving the Thursday night opener up to Wednesday because Thursday night is the night Barack makes his acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention from Bank of America Stadium. Where he will be spouting the same hatred for the wealthy bankers that he's been spouting for the last 4 years.

Stupid move by the NFL. Just what everyone needs. Another speech from Obama. I'll be watching Seinfeld.

It's a free market decision made to maximize the football watching audience. Why the hate?

Free market my ass. They didn't want to embarrass the President. The NFL ratings would have crushed the Presidents speech.

Can you right wingers get together here and decide whether or not the bankers are his friends or he hates them. I hear all of you all of the time whining one way or the other. Please make up your mind.

The NFL is a private business and it does what it wants. That you want to watch a leftie show like Seinfeld is really immaterial to this conversation.

I'm no Obama fan, but the NFL is doing this for itself, not Obama. If the game were scheduled at the same time as his speech, the networks would cut away from the game.

The game would be on one station most likely NBC. And I seriously doubt they cut away from and NFL game for a presidential convention speech.

They may, even if they didn't it would draw at least some from the game.
