Sheesh! Back when I was poor, a fulltime college student loading trucks at night married to an entry level clerk, we made $11,000 the first year we were married and PAID $1,000 in federal income taxes. Can we stop acting like "the poor" are a race of retards that need to be excused from rowing the boat just a little?
Interesting imagination, and choice of words. It takes a special person to put retards and poor in the same sentence. Who, but people like you, could think of that?
The poor can't afford it. How in the world did you manage to associate the word retard with it? And when was it that you made $11K?

1975. I "couldn't afford it" then either, but we paid. The thermostat was set on 55 degrees at night, every coat we owned was on top of every blanket we owned, but we paid the tax.
In case you didn't catch my drift, I'm OPPOSED to treating the poor as if they are not good enough to help row the boat. It is other people who want to treat them as defective, not me. Let's extend the opportunity of having a stake in the enterprise to them...instead of the situation I described somewhat vividly.
I sincerely apologize for the choice of terms. "Mentally defective" would have worked as well, and would not have stirred up all the retards.
If Obama was half the competent adult Ryan is, we'd be out of this recession with 5% unemployment and Obama would be sailing into reelection in November.

Like I said, it is people like you who have a tendency to attach such "qualifications" to being poor. Don't worry about this word or that. You've already demonstrated your ability to go far enough.
Poor being good enough? Only in your world. In mine, they do what they can. They pay local and state taxes, and often owe nothing in federal taxes because of that. It isn't their fault, is it?
Besides, $11K in 1975 is $47K today. I would even dare say that $11K probably did a lot more than $47K does today. So, stop equating THAT to poverty. I know several people today who make less than that, and still end up paying taxes. And on my boat, there is more to do than just row.

We have so many good, intelligent people in Wisconsin. Why is it always people like Paul Ryan, Jeffrey Dahlmer, Scott Walker, and Ed Geins that get the attention?

Sad, isn't it?
