Yesterday the NY Times runs a story about how the anti-immigrant furor in France may have drove the killer. Yet today the police are in a standoff with the suspect who is Muslim and said he killed to avenge Palestinians and French involvement in Afghanistan.
But the political debate around the shootings, and whether the deaths of an instructor and three young children were somehow inspired by anti-immigrant political talk, is likely to continue — both as a weapon in the presidential campaign and as a more general soul-searching about the nature of France.
No one is suggesting that the French presidential campaign inspired a serial killer to put a bullet in the head of an 8-year-old Jewish girl. The candidates largely suspended their campaigning and uniformly condemned the killings, as well as the murders of three French soldiers — two Muslims and a black man — apparently by the same man.
But in a period of economic anxiety, high unemployment and concerns about the war in Afghanistan and radical Islam, the far right in Europe has made considerable gains, even in essentially liberal democratic countries like Denmark, Sweden, the Netherlands and France.
Elite police officers surrounded a multifamily residence in Toulouse early on Wednesday and were negotiating with a 24-year-old man claiming ties to Al Qaeda and suspected in the killings this week of three young children and a rabbi at a nearby Jewish school, French officials said.
Yeah they did the same thing with the guy who shot Gifford. And the car bomb in New York.
On the one hand it is a hoot, but on the other hand it's actually kind of dangerous. Because these leftist ideologues are in charge of law enforcement agencies and are actually mishandling investigative resources based on their absurd political rhetoric. Which leaves us more vulnerable to real attacks.

Oh give it up. That speculation of suspect came from French police & alarming levels of hostility going on in the streets from rabid right muck raking. It's despicable how nothing the right does is ever their fault. Maybe the good Lord will see fit to have the earth swallow them whole and see how quickly the landscape improves.

Smh you're a typical far left Jew, embracing the ideology of their own destruction.
Nothing new from the NYT. They took the same approach with the DC sniper a few years ago. According to them, it had to be a single white guy from a rural background. NYT isn't a newspaper in the conventional sense of reporting news. They are a left wing blog, intent on forming opinion, not reporting facts. Sad and pathetic.

Although I'm (at least relatively) on the left these days, I have to admit as a lover of history, William F. Buckley noted the same thing about the JFK assassination; a leftist was alleged to have committed the crime, but the right-wing "climate" of hate was blamed.
(For the record, I don't believe the official version of the JFK assassination, but most people did at the time.)

And by the way the assumption that it might have been a Neo-Nazi was based on the fact that the victims were not only Jewish but also Arab and Muslims. And that the way the shooting was executed seemed to indicate potentially someone from the armed forces or previously a soldier at least.
Recently in Montauban where the Parachutists were killed some Neo Nazi soldiers were expelled from the Armed forces for their Allegiance to the Fuhrer and his doctrine. So it was only one avenue being explored. Nothing certain had been asserted so your sense of joy at the fact that the shooter might be a Muslim is not only innapropriate, it is disturbing and vile.
I have been watching French current affairs since the story unfolded and many other avenues were being considered by the forces but the Neo-Nazi one was being considered one of the strongest because of the two types of victims being targeted. Which is presumably what the NYT was told by their French correspondents. Stop seeing a conspiracy everywhere.
Grow up.

Are you insane? Most muslims are killed by other muslims. Biggest killer of christians is other christians. Its only the damn TV that tells you inter-racial violence is the big killer, not intra-racial, as it actually is.
