They are pushing for single shot and bolt/lever action firearms, as legal and all others will be illegal.
semi-auto sales are up. Even more so, than the Clinton years and the Brady Bill, panic.

Guns are cheap entertainment depending on caliber and with people out of work they keep themselves occuppied.

Guns are an excellent financial investment, better than gold.

towns are charging for 911 calls and it may be cheaper in some cases to take care of business without help.

Crime is up and everyone except politicians and anti gun activists know that criminals become more active so protection might be in order.

Batteries might go dead in your cell phone preventing a timely call to the police for an emergency.

NRA bumper stickers make would be car jackers, a real problem in some areas, think twice. Makes the general public act nicer too.

Buying and owning guns is soooo not European.

you can procure food with a firearm in these days of high food prices which are not considered inflationary.

Guns are art. Art is another good investment in hard times. It just makes one feel good to look at a well made functioning firearm. See, that is the emotional support everyone's always brings up, especially the envious anti gun folks.

You haven't lived until you have smelled Hoppe's #9 cleaning solvent on a cold frosty morning along with a odor of a freshly discharged shotgun shell powder.

The DOJ has abandoned American justice and blood sucking lawyers make money from criminal clients who get injured robbing you.

That is right up there, with burnt 2-stroke bean oil, on the morning of race day, for me.

Most people don't understand how powerful the media is. All of these older people sitting at home watching the news (whether liberal or conservative) just soak it all in and let it determine their behavior to the point of being unhealthy.

Everyone has that relative that watches the local news every single night, then becomes afraid of crime and someone coming after him/her. It's textbook paranoia.

It isn't just people buying guns, more are using them, from what I have seen. Local ranges are busy and membership to clubs is growing. People have some extra money to spend and are discovering a fun new hobby. It beats wasting money on the latest smart phone or tablet. Shooting is fun, and guns aren't obsolete and tossed in the garbage. And you can buy a darned nice handgun for the price of a higher-end iPad.

Whilst Europeans may not share the same affection for guns as some Americans, there are still a lot of people in Europe who own guns and a lot of very fine good firearms manufacturing companies in Europe.

In the UK alone we have 1.8 million licensed legally held guns.

There are a ton of nice guns that have come out in the last few years, everything from the Keltec bullpup KSG to piston driven ARs to suppressor-friendly designs to .338 lapuas. A lot of stuff that was unavailable or a custom-proposition just 10 years ago.

Suppose you're thinking about buying one of these. Normally you might put it off but with Obama, Biden, and Holder poised to enter their lame duck term, where they have nothing to lose politically from the audacity of a gun ban, why not go ahead and buy now. Even if it's only a 1 in 10,000 chance of some sort of ban happening, you're planning to buy eventually anyway. Now multiply that calculus times thousands of prospective buyers out there, and you've got a buying panic.

It's a fun hobby that millions more Americans are learning to enjoy...in spite of the anti-gun metrosexuals' paranoid fear which is pumped up by the gun haters in the media

There is no paranoia in wanting a way to defend yourself. Would you say the same if we were discussing people owning two cars?

Ignorance of what?

Some idiots just don't like people who are different from them. So to those who oppose gun ownership, gun owners are all "gun nuts", stupid, paranoid and toothless.

And probably 10 or 20 times that many that are not licensed.
