If you watch films that predate the 90's, you can see that smoking was virtually allowed anyplace in America: planes, restaurants, bars, public buildings, offices, etc. Now this is almost impossible to find, except for some particular places. I think smoking gives men that macho attiude and makes women sexy. What do you think? If America doesn't have socialized healthcare, why should the Government (stateside, county, local) prevent its citziens to smoke wherever they want?

No. Ever been in a restaurant full of smoke? Sucks.
Simply don't go. If people did't like fumes from cig puffing, the place would be empty and the owner would be forced to close. Just leave it up to both the proprietors and patrons
Yeah, I really miss people filling up the car with thick clouds of smoke so no one else can breathe. At least they don't allow parents to do that to their kids anymore. It's toxic.

Well, then they souldn't allow parents feed their kids with saturated-fat junk food in order to prevent heart diseases and all sorts of health issues

Yes! But you don't have to go back to the 80's for that. There were not smoking bans in or around Philadelphia until the middle of last decade. '05 or '06. The city might have been 2004 or 5ish and the suburbs were a year or two later. And until recently a lot of bars had smoking but now less. The rule is, around here anyway, if you do less than 20% in food sales the place of business can decide. There are still bars you can smoke in here and almost all private clubs.
But the restraunts have been smoke free for longer. I remember when you could smoke in them and anywhere else for that matter but since I don't frequent them a lot the exact time frame is hazy.
I miss it. I'm not a smoker nor have ever been, but I don't like bans on anything that mainly affects the perp. I grew up in the pre-ban era and never had a problem avoiding it. How about a ban on health hazards such gay sex or football? How about a ban on marathon running (frequent cause of injuries) or car exhaust? Would you miss that OP?

I kind of miss going into smokey places and this is when I don't even smoke. I just don't understand how now it's considered an outrage that people would smoke indoors but until fairly recently was not thought of as a big deal and accepted. I guess the law makes people more bold in professing their dislike of smoking. Where before it was considered as something that just is, like car exhaustions.
