I believe in:

- individual initiative, hard work and strong family values

- a multicultural America

- the absolute separation of church and state

- generally free markets, but some regulation of markets

- cracking down very strongly on crime and illicit drugs

- the dignity of human life

- climate change, evolution and all mainstream science

- ending affirmative action based on race or sex

- government improving the condition of the very poor

- a strong national defense and homeland security, but no unilateral attacks on other countries

So, is there any candidate or party which reflects my political positions?

If you don't know you should probably watch more political television and figure it out on your own.

Probably Ron Paul. He wants the government out of people's private lives, out of the marriage business, wants equality, and give America a real change and real freedom.

The United States in the most highly imprisoned country in the world. Most of our prisons are full. So do you feel our country has failed quite miserably in imprisoning our way out of our crime and drug problems by not throwing enough people in prison? If so, how should tax money be raised to build more prisons to put people in? Not everyone wants to be taxed more to build bigger and better jails and prisons. Also cracking down strongly on crime likely means more police and undercover officers would be needed. So yet more tax funding needed for that.

Many conservatives feel that government spending for the poor has done little to lesson poverty. Besides, more help for the very poor means more tax spending and how to find it.

What is the point of that unless you have a crystal ball that can weed out the lies?

Marijuana should be legalized, and that would greatly decrease the problem....Marijuana arrests accounted for 47.4% of the drug abuse arrests in 2009. This allows us to estimate that about 872,720 persons were arrested for marijuana offenses. Eighty-nine percent of these arrests were for possession. Another benefit is that it would decrease the criminal elements that control the multi billion dollar marijuana industry...Legalizing the production and sales of grass would also increase the tax base.

No, there is not, you are an Independent and don't know it. Vote for the candidate you think would do the best job for the Nation, or as is often the choice, the lesser of the two evils.

You vote for the candidate, not for political party, while keeping in mind the ease with which many of these are presented merely as a lip service to gain votes. To each of the issue you presented:

1- individual initiative, hard work and strong family values
Individual initiative, hard work and strong family come from within, is very personal not from politician speak or political party rhetoric. You can't vote based on the claims by those who preach these the most. Their motivation is your vote, not your personal gains.

2- a multicultural America
This is an issue where politics does play a role as we are looking beyond individualism and into a society that makes the rules. I would avoid knee jerk political response on this issue and focus on how that particular politician respects multiculturalism, or sees diversity as a whole, recognizing challenges to address key issues but not to serve a majority but to every individual.

3- the absolute separation of church and state
This should be easy... one that those who want separation of church and state to disappear. It generally ties to a forced portrayal of "family values".

4- generally free markets, but some regulation of markets
In other words, a believer in capitalism not a hater of regulations.

5- cracking down very strongly on crime and illicit drugs
Unfortunately, politicians have the power to define what is crime. They have done so effectively by using "morals" if not purely religious grounds.

6- the dignity of human life
To a politician? Dignity of human life applies to innumerable circumstances, right down to respecting EVERY SINGLE INDIVIDUAL regardless of his/her sexual orientation, financial position, gender, race, ethnicity, color... anything that belongs to that very person. Figure out which politician is about that.

7- climate change, evolution and all mainstream science
Another issue that is both personal and societal. Find a politician who is capable of separating personal preferences from the needs of the society. Many of the founders demonstrated that, and a good one would be the provision to separate church and governments. Many of these were devout Christians in their personal lives but they did not want that religion to be fundamental to laws and policies for all people, but demanded that EVERY INDIVIDUAL be respected and be free from the whims of a collective of the majority. The same would apply to issues of Science.

8- ending affirmative action based on race or sex
This, unfortunately, is not something a single politician can do anything about. I'm against the idea, but electing me won't do any good because of the structure we must follow.

9- government improving the condition of the very poor
Government has a role to play to ensure that there is less suffering and justice. It is important that the official on the ballot respect that as a role, be open to being questioned on both pros and cons of the plan he/she maintains, and preferably with real world examples.

10- a strong national defense and homeland security, but no unilateral attacks on other countries
Unfortunately, "strong" is a rather "weak" word when it comes to drawing the line where to stop. It is why we need pragmatists and not ideologues.
