While I think the case highlighted in that article looks like fraud, stem cell therapies are very promising. Canada just approved a stem-cell drug to help children with graft-vs-host disease following a bone marrow transplant: http://www.nytimes.com/2012/05/18/he...in-canada.html As someone who will likely face a stem cell transplant (very similar to a bone marrow transplant) in the near future, I look to stem cell therapies as a way to improve my quality of life - or even save my life.
I'm all for research from adult stem cells, stem cells from donated umbilical chords, and stem cells which do not come from embryos, or otherwise come from the creation & destruction of human life (fetal or embryonic) be it for "medical research", abortion, or fertility treatments (test-tube embryos).

I think the scientific benefit of adult stem cells also stems from the fact that these stem cells are extracted from your own body, which means that those tissues that form will be 100% compatible with your own body and will not come under attack by your immune system

Ummm yea.....it is much more ethical to throw those cells in the garbage/incinerator.....rather than use them to help the living.
