Author and Journalist Naomi Schaefer Riley of NaomiRiley.com joins Glenn Reynolds to discuss the crisis in higher education. Is college a scam that certifies people for jobs that don't even exist? Are people graduating from college not knowing basic arithmetic, reading or writing? How does this relate to the higher education bubble? Find out.
Save the 12 minutes, people. The women talking in the video is a moron. She was just fired from the Chronicle of Higher Education because she used a few dissertations to argue that Black Studies as a whole is a total waste of time. Now, she potentially could have made a credible argument. The only problem was . . . SHE DIDN'T EVEN BOTHER READING THE DISSERTATIONS.
Her excuse?
"Scores of critics on the site complained that I had not read the dissertations in full before daring to write about them—an absurd standard for a 500-word blog post. A number of the dissertations aren't even available."
What? Read something before writing about it in a national publication? That's just crazy talk!!!! I mean who cares if the title of her piece is "The Most Persuasive Case for Eliminating Black Studies? Just Read the Dissertations!"
IDIOT!!
Now I give the floor to those who bemoan that Black Studies exists and cite it as a reason why college education is a waste.
Tenure---they can't get rid of the "waste of time" professors that teach nothing much. Your money in action and you graduate looking for a job that does not exist.

Don't try and equate tenure at the elementary and secondary levels with tenure at the university level, especially at Research I's. Teaching isn't the only thing that are in university professors' job requirements.
And if students don't like something at a university, they are free to take their tuition dollars elsewhere or not go to college at all.

I think many are and wising up when they learn of this.

If they didn't know this before they started at a college of their CHOICE, they have no business attending post-secondary, 4-year educational institutions.
These career academy schools are often a poor substitute for an actual college education.
