I'd rather believe in scientific facts...if that makes me "dumb"...oh well.
I guess that you don't know how many times "scientific facts" have been found to be wrong!

I wonder what this priest's source(s) is/are for the statement "millions upon millions slaughtered in atheistic regimes".

Stalin alone counts for millions. Mao millions more. Pol Pot millions more. You don't really have to think very hard to come up with examples.

Here's a problem that I have with Mr. Pontifex...he uses examples to decry atheism, but the examples actually confirm the dangers and idiocy of organized religion.

Quote:
"The Spanish Inquisition three thousand, the Salem witch trials nineteen, but millions upon millions slaughtered in atheistic regimes"
The Salem Witch Trials would not have ocurred if not for an ignorant religious belief in the Devil.
The Inquisition was the most horrific display of intolerance fueled by religion. It was not just the murders themselves, but the manner and techniques that made them so horrific. Mr. Pontifex also grossly minimizes the amount of people murdered or affected by the Crusades and Inquisition...

Victor Hugo estimated the number of the victims of the Inquisition at five million, it is said, and certainly the number was much greater than that if we take into account, as we should, the wives and husbands, the parents and children, the brothers and sisters, and other relatives of those tortured and slaughtered by the priestly institution. To these millions should properly be added the others killed in the wars precipitated in the attempt to fasten the Inquisition upon the people of various countries, as the Netherlands and Germany.

The Horrors of The Church and its Holy Inquisition

Mr. Pontifex makes light of these atrocities, but gives no actual examples of death caused by atheism. He also fails to mention how the Native American children were ripped out of their homes in the name of religion and beaten when they spoke their native language.

This is merely a guy plugging his agenda.

Scientific facts are always tentative by definition. Finding them wrong is actually progress.

What would be the religious equivalent?
