"Last year marked the fifth straight year of year-to-year improvement for the number of violent crimes reported to authorities. It was the ninth consecutive year of declines for property crimes, according to preliminary FBI data for 2011 released Monday."

The Associated Press: FBI: Violent crime down for fifth straight year

This is interesting. If one were to only follow threads here in the P/C forum you'd think crime was just out of control. Oh well, I'm sure facts will do nothing to sway the scaremongerers.

Looks like fewer police officers has worked out pretty well.

If it went up, some of the wing nuts here would be blaming Obama. If it isn't Obama/lib bashing, they don't want to hear it and they have the nerve to call themselves patriots. For anyone who actually does care about the good of this country, this is good news. I am sure some people find this disappointing because it isn't something they can use to make the president look bad.

Honestly I think it has to do with the Internet and other technology causing society to be more introverted, also the aging of the population.

In 2007 Cleveland reported 134 murders within the city. By the time the FBI stats came out it was changed to 81. They lower stats in most of the major cities year after year. They distort facts to suit their agenda.

Yeah but the type of violent crime happening now is rather bizarre.

As someone who lives in Chicago and who keeps himself informed regarding current events ... I don't think the above quote applies to my city.

Yes, probably. The White Supremicists and racists are afraid of Black men who achieve high office. We see that fear reflected in forum postings every day of the week.
