It seems pretty obvious that a shocking amount of our country's wealth is in the hands of the boomers, who don't seem to want to support investment in infrastructure or much of anything for the subsequent generations. However, I wonder if there is going to be a tremendous spike in philanthropy over the next 30 years, as they enter the hereafter.

Personally, I don't care so much if they put money in the government if they can give back in ways that don't make the next few decades so undeniably sucky. I mean bankrupting the government, destroying social security, etc. For instance, will they just give their overpriced homes to their kids? Will they give to nonprofits and churches at record levels? All I know is that they can't take it with them, but you would not know that by the current selfish, I am always a victim attitudes I see in, for instance, the Tea Partiers.

What do you all think?

The boomers will go down in history as the absolute worst generation in modern America. THey squandered all the benefits provided to them by their predecessors and left a tattered economy for their children....But hey, they got their Mcmansion....

luckily, my generation (25-35 yr olds) are getting a good education on how not to totally screw the pooch....

I think it is more apt to place the blame on the current status of the economy on the shoulders of teh PEOPLE of the US rather than one man in the Oval Office. Thus, based on the facts and the evidence, the generations we call the boomers are really the ones we should be looking at......no?

Wait...Am I reading correctly that the thesis of the OP is that private citizens are "withholding" capital from everyone else and preventing the growth of infrastructure? It's called savings and it's typically what you do in difficult economic times.

The idea of limited wealth was discarded long ago, so feel free to go out and create some wealth of your own and you can do with it what you like.

Lefties think the central government are the only ones who are smart enough to know how we should all spend our money. They would make it fair and all. Especially if your running a green company.

I think the Op missed the point of the report as I heard the facts, its that they don't think it wise or want to leave their heirs great wealth they have made. One has to understand as the report said these are people who made their entrie fortune themselves and they think its better for their heirs to do the same and bad to inherit too much. The rest is just more whing about now bad Op thinks he/she has it and in some ways what many of these bomers think wil lhappen if they leave the wealth rather tha give in to charity of their choice. No one really should expect to inherit the lifesyle of their parents which is often the case that leads to such a attitude.

Thats an unfair hasty conclusion. You can be conservative and know that the Boomer generation sucked everything they could up and did nothing to better the future generations.
