Well, as usual, ideally the government wouldn't be involved. But, also as usual, people end up taking advantage of their employees and cause problems to such a degree that WE THE PEOPLE insist the government do something. We've seen it many times. It's not as if the government just makes up **** to get invoved with most of the time, there is usually a driving force.
This post hit the nail on the head.
Do any of you think employers in the early 20th century were offering employees sick days and personal days?
No,they weren't,which is why laws were enacted.
I highly doubt employers would cut through their own profits to offer time off, whether paid or unpaid.
That's said, one week or two is fine for paid time off.
Four weeks is over the top.
If the government runs it (like AIG, Fannie/Freddie, etc) then they can do what they want as they are the employer.
Otherwise, stay out of what other businesses can or cannot afford to do.
The U.S. is virtually the only industrial/developed/western nation with no government mandate paid maternity leave, any paid days off (sick/vacation), or any other paid absence from work of any reason.
Should the federal/state government mandate companies to provide some paid benefits/absence from work to the workers?
Sounds like part of the plan to "fundamentally change" America.
"America is the greatest nation on earth, won't you help me to change it?"

Sorry, but nobody in his or her right mind would want the USA to wind up becoming the economic basket case that France is thanks to their policies related to hiring and vacations.
No. I think there should be maternity leave for every pregnant female but I leave that up to the company...have stupid rules against it you are never going to keep employees.
Businesses against paid sick days? What a surprise!
A business would use slaves if it could get away with it.
