The USA has to be dreaming if it believed Australia would take the choice of US bases on Australian soil for the sake of the USA versus Australian trade with China.
The USA would not be buying the amount of ore etc we send China, so when it comes to US bases versus trade we will take the trade.

There's no need to build bases, as US forces are already using Aussie facilities - they'll just upgrade the bases to handle larger numbers of US servicemen and equipment.

Australia is part of the "Five Eyes" AKA.. AUSCANUKUS I mean Canada and Austalia Can buy almost anything from Raython, Lockheed Martin, Boeing, BAE I mean if Australia were to Order the upgraded versions of on the F-15SE say buy 100 and 100 F/A-18 Super Hornets along with 20-30 Growlers and fast track some 15-20 F-35As and add 10-12 German U212 and U214 AIP subs with Cruise Missles.

Like another poster said already, we already have troops stationed there and the Australian government can just expand the bases to accommodate more of our service members. Good thing, as I thought building a new base would have been a waste of money and we probably would have footed most of the bill

Laughing at nzrugby...sorry but the US and AUS won't be stopping their partnership anytime soon-no matter how much you may wish. Although I have no idea why we'd want to put a base on that desert continent, we're already subsidizing the defense of too many nations that can wipe their own noses now.

We don't know yet, but historically Russian fighters like Su-35 have been lots of hype and fancy airshow demonstrations followed by getting splashed in any wartime encounter with United States and allies.

Why would we need bases in Australia when we have them in Germany?

Not that far of a drive.
