In point of fact the fascists called themselves "the third way" back in the 20's and 30's. The implication was they were neither classical liberals nor communists. In practice they were far closer to communists in that they believed in strong powerful central governments than severely limited the individual liberties of it's citizens. Classical liberalism on the other hand believed in weak central governments with far more power at the local level like the government envisioned by the founders of this nation.
