I can't help but wonder if I am the only one that has noticed that he stammers just before he tells a lie... It's become pretty obvious to even a casual observer.

The biggest expendature was under Professional Training Education and Awareness. Between 2009 and 2011 it accounted for about 30% of the total increase in expendatures. WTF

Also look at how the amount fo Declassification has DRAMTICALLY decreased since the 1990's.

Did you read the disclaimer and see how many agencies are NOT included in this report.

Quote:
The total security classification cost estimate within Government for Fiscal Year (FY) 2011 is $11.36 billion, an increase of $1.2 billion, or 12% from FY 2010. This figure represents estimates provided by 41 executive branch agencies, including the Department of Defense (DoD). It does not include the cost estimates of the Central Intelligence Agency, the Defense Intelligence Agency, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, the National Reconnaissance Office, and the National Security Agency. The cost estimates of these agencies are classified in accordance with Intelligence Community classification guidance and are included in a classified addendum to this report.

that's an awfully expensive rug to sweep things under, but then again it must be huge.

I think you are fundamentally misunderstanding the meaning of certain issues:

"Transparency" generally refers to the idea of making it clear where and how money is spend. It has nothing to do with keeping secrets from the public.

Or do you think it would be preferable if the US government spends absolutely no money on making sure our secrets stay secret? Would you like every Jim and Joe to know absolutely everything about our military, for example? Would you like every extremist in Iran to have access to that same information?

You see, keeping secrets costs money. Being transparent simply means that you show your constituents how much money you spend for what issues. Being transparent does NOT mean that you share every bit of knowledge, know-how, technological advancement, or threat to our society.

Or perhaps it makes sense that you need to spend money in order to keep information in the "right" hands?

It boggles my mind that a report on the costs of Information Security is read as the President trying to keep things secret.

Let me clue you in here, the US is under constant attack via Cyber threats, some of which have been successful and have gotten to sensitive information. If anything we should be spending MORE money. The last thing we need is countries like China mass producing our own military designs. Or a Third World country with an unstable dictator in possession of Nuclear Secrets.

If you really feel this is a boondoggle, please feel free to send me your bank account information, real name, social security number, mother's maiden name, address, phone number, and all your spouse's information. I promise to keep it REALLY safe!
