I'm glad a black person was voted President, it was an important step for this country. I feel like it was the final turning point where racism in this nation now is an exception and not a rule, the final fruition of the civil rights movement.

You have chosen not to vote for him in November because he's a failure and you're fed up with the political machine in this nation.
Again, race was not a factor. But, I realize there is nothing I can say to convince you otherwise. However, I would be lying if I denied feeling emotional while watching his inauguration. It was a tremendous milestone, not only for black Americans, but for us collectively as a nation. On that day, I couldn't help but think about my ancestors, who as slaves, could not have imagined such a day in their wildest dreams. Or, to realize they helped build the steps a black man would eventually stand on to be sworn in as our new president. Frankly, I never thought I would witness such an event in my lifetime.

When my dad passed away the following year, we received a letter of appreciation for his military service, signed by Barack Obama, President of the United States. I don't cry easily, but that day I cried. Then, I had to laugh, because my dad was a Hillary supporter. I couldn't help but think of how nice it would have been had she won, and her signature was on the letter.

You don't know me. So, I don't expect you to understand. If you can't accept my word as truth, so be it.

Why are you having such a hard time admitting that many white people voted against him because he was black? Why did you ignore THAT faction???

I acknowledge in my post #79 that many whites voted for him because he was black. I'd vote for a black president too. Put Larry Elder on the ticket and I'll vote for him.

I keep hearing that African Americans vote democrat for their interests.. Obama is for abortion, gay rights, foodstamps freebees so what other interests are there? surely it isn't for the advancement of blacks. They have been voting democrat for decades and the ghettos are still here and they are shooting each other more than ever. It is getting worse , not better. Chicago is worse than a battlefield in the middle east.

A better standard of living.

Liberalism is killing our society. The democrats think they can right every wrong. If a women gets pregnant , get an abortion. If one wants to take drugs go ahead , we will give you SSI if you are so strung out on drugs we will give you money and treatment. If one wants to sit on the couch and get free housing and foodstamps they can.

At least he republicans want to create jobs, create self respect, honor life, and family values it has more to offer than the democrats..the dems create problems by always giving the way out to bad living. It stinks . Democrats always trying to fix the mess they create and they can't do it.

Republicans want personal responsiblity , values and self respect and dignity by being a good citizen instead of being part of the problem.

Dems freedom to destroy yourself.

Republicans, self respect though hard work and family values.

Black voter turnout in 2008 increased by 5% over 2004. The black candidate brought out more black voters. Understandable.
