What I get from this is that the republican view of wanting smaller gov't by reducing gov't jobs is viewed as a threat to the livelihood of the black middle class. So you're not going to get many blacks voting republican or joining the tea party.

Lawrence Otis Graham mentioned how the white middle class has depended on corporate jobs. Could blacks have taken the same route? Hasn't discrimination in corporate America been too much of an issue for enough blacks to have relied on that route to the middle class?

Ok but democrats aren't generally for cutting public sector jobs which can explain why they have gotten more of the black vote.

Probably true. Back in the day the 1st mayor Daley in Chicago filled up city hall with blacks as a form of patronage. It angered conservative whites like my parents, who had always supported him. Most were not qualified. Many could barely read and write.

Definitely agree that minorities have had more success in the public sector than in corporate America, and the GOP's message of shrinking gov't is not going to be appealing to the portion of the elecorate that is employed by the public sector.

However that is just the tip of the iceberg with the current crop of Republicans, and frankly if we had an up to date 21st century version of the pre-1994 GOP, then I don't think they would have a problem attracting any type of American.

If that's true then Daley used bad judgement with those jobs.

I have no problem with cutting gov't jobs if it's actually necessary. Conservatives shouldn't cut these jobs just for the sake of cutting them.

No crap, why do you think conservative hate government? Government did alot of uplift blacks, hiring them, grants and so much more... everyone knows this, it's not a secret.

Why do you think the conservatives hate government so much? lol... c'mon now it's nothing new....

Ask a conservative how does "big government" affect their life and most can't even answer that.

With obama is office that number with be 16% by September, they hate him and want him gone, they'll fire a negro a day just to prove a point lol
