I've already addressed the stupidity of using common sense as a reason, but since you don't bother to read a thread before responding, here it is again:

“Common sense is not so common.” - Voltaire

Meaning, that your version of "common sense" isn't what other people share.

IT was common sense to believe that the world was flat
It was common sense to believe that Coca-Cola could cure your ales
It was common sense to believe that we could not get to the moon
It is common sense to believe that you could go to a movie theater at any time of night and not get hurt by a crazy mad man.

Also, just because there isn't a law against something, doesn't make it a healthj idea/option for a child.
No truth whatsoever in that statement.

The movie ratings are there to allow the parents to decide and not an actual child rearing rule or regulation. Maybe there is violence, maybe there is swearing, maybe someone shows their boob or butt. None of it is unexceptable unless the parent deems it so. Personal preference, THAT is how it works. It's freedom, parential rights, all that stuff everyone yells and screams about when they complain about public schools. It's weird how so many parents can't get think for themselves and blindly follow a film rating but insist nobody knows best about their kids than them the rest of the time..

My son also love/d/s the "Alien" series. He was never scared of stuff like that, he always thought monsters were awesome.

This is a non issue expect in the minds of those who think there is a set formula for raising kids and it should apply to everyone even if it doesn't make sense.

And maybe there is the off chance of a swear word used in a sexual connotation that got the movie and R rating.

Alien and a few R rated sci-fi movies of the late 70's and early 80's were one of the reasons I got into SFX makeup and design, and moved on to prop making in college. I was creating "monsters" in my parent's kitchen out of flour and food coloring.

You're both right. To hell with childhood innocence. It is over rated anyway.
