Interested in knowing which country they would like for the U.S. to model itself on.

I like the country I live in. I just don't like the far right fascists who are trying to take it from me.

"Take the country back!"

"*********, you can't have it."

I personally would like the United States to be united again. I would like separation of church and state. I would like conservatives to stop thinking that they are the only ones that believe in God, and are the select few. I would like to see the return of the American values -- and I do not mean family values. I mean the ones that involved life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness.

Mostly, I would like people to stop being so mean spirited, sanctimonious, and self-righteous, as if they personally had all the answers and everyone else needed to hear them.

I would like patriotism to mean more than waving flags and bombing innocent people. I don't want to support troops. I want to support teachers, health care providers, and the people that keep our streets safe. I want our troops to come home.

I want everyone to get along.

I want to hear freedom ring through the sound of school bells.

I want US to become AMERICA, again.

Is THAT too liberal for you?

This is a stupid question/thread in my opinion, but I'll bite anyways.

Why should we as a nation try to "become" or "model ourselves" after other countries? Why can't we just be ourselves. The USA is, undoubtedly, one of the most unique countries on the planet, bar none. We're in a league of our own in many respects. With that being said, I think that there's A LOT of room for improvement (as there is everywhere). I really don't see a problem with examining and taking/implementing different successful aspects of other countries and applying them here (i.e. a Universal healthcare system, etc.) to help to better ourselves. Does taking good ideas from other places transform us into those places? No, absolutely not. Why would it? That logic makes no sense. We're by no means a perfect nation and there are a plethora of other nations that do a lot of things a lot better than we do. However, by observing the rest of the world and implementing some of their good ideas in a uniquely American way (i.e. A way that would perhaps be a better fit for our system/country) in no way transforms us into another country.

Also, if you think it's just "liberals" that seem to try and transform our country, then you're seriously delusional.....

It wasn't that long ago that Tip O'Neil could sit down with his republican counterparts and share a good bottle of whiskey and compromise, moving the country's business forward. Those days are long gone, I'm afraid.

Denmark, Norway, Finland, Canada, Sweden, and Germany are all doing a pretty good job of whipping us at the "American Dream" game. We should try to be more like them in that respect, where everyone gets a fair shake and a fair shot at success.

Unfortunately, we seem to be running away from what we should be doing. Instead of moving the country forward together, we're engaged in an ideological war and the extremist nutjobs have taken over one party.
