If the Canadian healthcare system is so bad as many of the right wing US nutjobs want to make it out to be, then why aren't the Conservatives... who are in power... trying to privatise it?
Oh I know why... because the Canadian public as a whole (a vast majority of them, in fact) wouldn't stand for it, and the Conservatives would be out of office faster than you can say "eh".
If you ACTUALLY go to Canada and ask your average Canadian what they think of privatising healthcare in Canada to a system similar to that of the US, they'd absolutely be against it, citing much lower costs in Canada and the lack of medical bankruptcies.
Canada's health system is better for the majority, while the US system is better for those who can afford to pay more.

I'm not entirely sure where your "relatives" live in Canada, but this is absolutely not true. None of it. Universal health care is sacrosanct in Canada and no government, provincial or federal, is stupid enough to touch it - they'd be turfed out of office before they blinked an eye.
The Conservative government is changing funding starting around 2018, but my guess is that they'll be on the dole themselves after the next election and these changes will be reversed.
There are problems with the system in Canada, depending on the jurisdiction. It is efficient, but wait times are longer than they should be in SOME places. In others, there are virtually ZERO wait times. Zero.
However, Conservatives like to believe that Americans have health care on demand when it's simply not the case. There are massive wait times here, too, even for people with good insurance. And finding a family doctor?
Massive shortages in the US, too, because too many doctors become specialists because that's where the big $$$ are. Tens of millions of people don't have a family doctor in the US, and it's not because they don't have insurance. Ironically, Obamacare will make this situation worse because it will give millions more access to insurance, and they too will be competing for sparse openings with general practitioners.
What the country needs is to reduce the stranglehold the AMA has on licensing new doctors (increase their numbers), and to give tax incentives for people to becoming GPs for a set number of years.
This is a long, but extremely interesting blogspot from a Christian Conservative American who moved to Canada, and her perspective on their system. After having her first baby, she quickly changed her anti-universal care stance, even though she remains a Christian Conservative.
I read this quote from the Health Outcome section of the Comparsion of the health care systems in Canada and the United States. The quote reads:
"In the World Health Organization's rankings of health care system performance among 191 member nations published in 2000, Canada ranked 30th and the U.S. 37th, while the overall health of Canadians was ranked 35th and Americans 72nd."
I always heard that the Canadian health care system is terrible because it puts too many patients on a long waiting list for surgery or even a simple check up.
Can someone please provide a link that gives unbiased facts on how both health care systems work, or can you please in your own words break it down for me. I really want to understand this topic a lot more. And also give me your opinion on the matter, who do you think has the best health care system? U.S? Canada? And if its another country tell me which one and why?

1. Canadians do get to pick their family doctors. Who ever says otherwise is flat-out lying.
2. Canadian healthcare is not socialized medicine. In socialized medicine the doctors work for the Government/people. In Canada, the doctors work for private practices. The only difference is that the doctors are paid by one insurance agency (the particular Provence), not 250.
3. Waiting times to see a doctor are horrendous... In some cases, yes, but the Canadian system utilizes protocols in order to give a streamlined service for everyone. Non-medical emergencies can take time to be seen just like they do here in the U.S. If you live in a small town or lesser populated Provence, you will wait a little bit longer. But the wait times are not very different than they are in the U.S.
My dad had Kaiser Permanente. When he began having chest pains there was no real rush to find out what the cause may be until a month and a half later when he ended up in the ER with a heart attack. He died that night, by the way. When I required an operation due to a hernia, it still took 2 months to make it happen. And I had great insurance at the time.
Healthcare in Canada vs. healthcare in the U.S. is going to depend largely on who you talk to. But I guaranty you this: if you talk to a Conservative from either side of the border, the Canadian system, like ObamaCare, is evil.
My relatives have never had any problem getting access to healthcare there.
Good for them.
But it DEFINITELY happens.
If it didn't, then the Canadian Supreme Court would NOT have ruled that "access to a waiting list is not access to health care".
You also wouldn't have some cities holding LOTTERIES for people to get a Primary Care Physician.
On the whole, if you live in or near a metropolitan area where they have doctors, you probably like it. If you live outside of those metro areas, you experience a profound doctor shortage.

It was about how GE donated neo-natal machines to England. These were USED machines.
I found it ironic that the Olympic Opening Ceremony made a big deal touting how great their HC system is and then there;s a commercial saying how great GE is for donating used equipment to it.
Did you know that you have to buy a special policy if you plan to travel outside of Canada or even to another province? Your Candaian coverage won't have pay for any medical treatment should you get sick outside of Canada. If you have any medical issues it can be quite pricey or as in the case of my neighbor's Mom unavailable. She jokes that her Mom is a medical prisoner of the Canadian goverment.
