It's just another poll tax for those who don't have photo ID's. Republicans are really corrupt.
10 cases of in-person voter fraud
hundreds of cases of mail-in voting fraud... Republicans vote in their votes more often, nothing done about such crime.
The in-person voting fraud was likely mostly people trying to double vote with their own identity in different districts where they reside.
Many elderly people do not renew their IDs. They may have an ID but it is expired. When you are 80 and living in assisted living or a nursing home, you are not going to go to the DMV and stand in line to renew an ID you no longer use. If we are going to have laws on voter ID the laws need to exempt people over 70 or allow them to use an expired government issued ID to vote.
1) Many of the laws actually do allow seniors to use expired ID's.
2) As I said in a previous post, most states allow seniors to vote by mail.
But here's the thing - I believe that most states allow voting by mail for the elderly even if they don't have health problems.
Also, I have never experienced standing in line hours and hours at the DMV. Ever. I have always been able to get in and out pretty quickly. Moreover, in many states you can sometimes renew your license by mail or online (though, to be fair, seniors generally cannot).
As an aside, Democrats allege that Republicans support voter ID laws to reduce voting among groups that are more likely to vote Democrat than Republican, but the elderly are actually more likely to vote Republican than Democrat. Why would the Republicans support voter ID laws as some voter suppression strategy when a key Republican constituency is one of the most likely to have trouble getting ID's?
The largest group without id's are not the elderly, they are poor inner city voters.

Come to my town and you'll stand in line at the DMV for at least an hour, usually an hour and a half.
The way the Republicans are trying to suppress the voting is by going into districts/states that normally turn out higher numbers of Democrats and try to enact voter ID laws and shorten the voting hours/days. They're leaving the districts/states that normally vote Republican alone.
I have an ID, but that is because I am a moderately wealthy suburbanite who likes to do international travel every once in a while.
If you live in an inner city where it is often expensive/pointless to own a car, and do not travel it is very reasonable to believe you would not have a valid ID. I college I knew a bunch of folks who, while wealthy, were from cities and had never bothered to get a drivers license and probably would have serious trouble with voter ID laws if they existed in North Carolina.
