Oh noes The most influential public figure in conservative circles says Romney is not a conservative, repeatedly over and over again. Spin this Limbaugh/Romney fans. Say this tape is edited, even though it's almost 15 minutes long un-edited.

70% of the Republicans are split all over the map, but they know they do not support Romney, the reason is simple, Romney is not a conservative, he is not, you can argue with me all day long - Limbaugh

Rush is right, he's not the ideal choice for most conservatives but that is irrelevant now as the primaries are over. The focus now is on getting Obama out office.

Nice way of twisting the topic.

Rush said Romney is not conservative. Can you admit that without spinning it into "he's not the ideal choice"

This is just sad

I always thought that Rush Limbaugh was one of the finest minds ever to take up the mantle of Republican Spokesperson. His insightful, well thought out perception of political reality was always refreshing and uplifting. I applaud him for taking the hard look at current political challenges as stridently as he has and having the cajones to tell it like it is. Hat's off, Rush.

Your little trick here is trying to pit conservatives against other Republicans. I noticed the same thing in the debates and the coverage leading up to the primaries in the media. Since Romney is the candidate the focus of all Republicans needs to be defeating Obama. Romney may not be the ideal choice for many of them but he's heads above Obama and that should be their only concern at this point.

Perfect reason for the moderates to vote for Romney. Proof he is not THAT conservative and moderates can go with that. They will like that.

oh noes, you forgot to put a date on this. It's almost a year old.

Look at Romney's history. He was a JD/MBA from Harvard who became a businessman. Businessmen often take the non-ideological tack, attaching to whatever the prevailing winds of the time and place are, and using them to best advantage. You can't fight city hall, etc...

He didn't get into politics till the mid-90's in Massachusetts, the most lib state in the nation, the only state along wiith DC that voted for far-left George McGovern for prez. He wouldn't have gotten anywhere running as an ultraconservative, and unsurprisingly he didn't run as one.

Fast forward to Oct 2011 and he was running to the right to win the GOP nomination. He admitted at his 2012 CPAC speech that he had not grown up reading Hayek. After he won the nomination, though he continued running to the right when expediency would have dictated a swerve back to the left. Then he chose ultraconservative darling Paul Ryan as VP. At this point he has built conservative cred. Limbaugh is now saying nice things about him. What might Romney do after elected? No one can say for sure except Romney, but we know where Obama will go...tax, spend, balloon the gov't, and deflate the private sector.

When you're a naive child, you demand ideological purity. Later when you mature, you realize that isn't in the cards under our system. If you demand everything or nothing, you get nothing. What we need right now is just someone who will dial back the excesses, to keep us from running off the steep embankment that looms off to our left.

The wing nuts are slowly realizing that Romney is going to lose so in jumps the leader of the Republican Party to try to spin the coming lose. It's not that Romney was so extreme that he alienated the vast middle of the American electorite. No, according to Rush they needed someone even MORE extreme, more out of touch with the views of most Americans, even more conservative. That will be his talking points after Romney loses because... Well... Because that's always Rush's talking point.

The reality is this was the Republicans election to lose and they have lost it at this point simply because they're incapable of nominating someone who can win. They face out everyone who isn't far right and that means the guy is so tainted he's unelectable in the general. Sorry, but going even more extreme, even more fringe, even further to the right, will not change that fact.
