was it 'racism' when democrats tried to make an issue of mccain's citizenship prior to the 2008 elections?
So you're going to seriously imply that Romney's "joke" about the birth certificate didn't inference Obama's crazy birther opposition at all?

I probably only heard only a couple times about McCain's citizenship in 2008. It was never a part of the opposition platform like birthersim...

No, the birth certificate "joke" was not local amusement, as I said above it's clear what the motive was and why the "joke" was told.
You are 100% correct, but why bother debating with the very type of people Romney was so obviously pandering to?

Matthews was absolutely right that the Republican birthers and certainly other elements of the Party are indeed pushing the "foreign-ness" of Obama as hard as they can. The birth certificate issue, the accusations of Obama being a Muslem, a socialist, and looking to Europe for guidance are all parts of the effort to make Obama appear to be a "foreign element" and "not real American".....designed to appeal to the less educated and more provencial folks in this country, and to cause those people to be fearful enough that they vote Republican to keep the "foreigner" out of the White House. We have a perfect example of that here on CD via a poster who lives in rural Kansas.
Bingo!

It certainly is "useless" to try to debate with such folks, however, it seems necessary to counter the continued lies they keep putting out there. Even if that means just making a simple statement of truth and pointing out the ridiculousness of their lies/propaganda.

There's clearly no "debating" with these folks. If you inject too much logic into the debate/conversation, they simply get together and all ignore your posts, so they won't debate, but will bully in hopes you will go away. The "bullying" lies in the "group" ignoring posters who threaten their crazy with logic, as I said, hoping the threat will go away. Tenacity is important, especially now. It's important to counter such ridiculousness as their saying that Romney's statement was just "local humor".......now how stupid do they think people are to believe that absurdity. Obviously they think their own supporters are pretty stupid. So, just setting the record straight and trying to counter/balance the crazy.

so you're saying it wasn't 'racist' in mccain's case based on the number of times you personally heard about it?
how many times does it have to be mentioned in order to be crazily contrived as being 'racist'? is there some kind of magical number?

It is certainly clear to anyone who can analyze the situation that birtherism is based on racism. It is the demonstration of outrage that a black man is in the White House. Obama's legitimacy has been proven time and time again, yet the birthers continue to grasp at just "one more need for proof" because the real issue for them is in fact that they cannot deal with the fact that Obama, a black man, won the Presidency and is in the highest seat of power in our country. There is no question about his birth and his legitimacy to be President, yet birthers still are out there trying to make Obama seem "foreign"...."the other"...."not a real American".....so that people, uneducated people, people in rural areas who are not very sophisticated, will fear him and be motivated to go out and vote AGAINST him. That's the strategy.

The lie is that the statement was not a joke in re Obama's birth certificate.

McCain's legitimacy was brought up simply to try to show that the focus on Obama's birth certificate wasn't racism. This is pretty obvious strategy. Easy to see if you're not trying to defend birthers.

tingles is livid!!!!!

CM show features cheap thrills while the country is in a crisis of epic proportion.

CM's and his comments are inversely proportional to their relevance.

another msnbc host livning on the edge of reality whose audience watches just to see the day he falls apart on the air and the EMTs arrive with a straightjacket and a dose of valium.

In this political season CM will next argue the material in MR's socks.

Yep, keep us posted on the latest CM outburst. It will go right into junkmail.
