This is a totally failed effort. Registering selected criminals is like being in Boston with the Scarlet Letter 300 years ago.
It's cruel and unusual punishment and should end.
Totally agree. Megan's Law should be repealed.
"My rule of thumb is a strong presumption that any law named after a victim is poor public policy enacted by legislators who confuse voting against a law with voting against an innocent person." --Ted Frank
At least one court can see the RSO list for what it is;
Aug 28 (Reuters) - A federal appeals court said Indiana's sex and violent offender registry unconstitutionally violated
the due process rights of thousands of registrants because it did not give them a chance to fix mistakes.
The 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Chicago rejected arguments by the Indiana Department of Correction that it was not directly responsible for errors in the registry, which contains about 24,000 names, and that registrants had other procedures to challenge mistakes.
Concluding that erroneous labeling as a "sexually violent predator" implicated a liberty interest protected by the Due
Process Clause, the 7th Circuit noted that Indiana had recently begun letting current prisoners challenge pending registry listings, but gave other registrants no such opportunity.
"The policy provides no process whatsoever to an entire class of registrants -- those who are not incarcerated," and is
therefore "constitutionally insufficient," Circuit Judge Diane Wood wrote for a unanimous three-judge panel.
Short of performing brain operations to fix the sexual impulses that predators have there is really nothing society at large to protect itself from psychopaths, sociopaths, predators, murderers, rapists etc. and creating band-aid laws such as "Meghan's Law" merely proves the adage "The road to hell is paved with good intentions".
And it's a typical failed government program. "Road to hell" is a good description. Not only have we allowed our government to tell us who we can have sex with, we now must wear a Scarlet Letter. I thought we got over this problem 300 years ago.
Here's an update from New Orleans;
"In New Orleans, police and prosecutors have been charging the city’s prostitutes as sex offenders. The policy, which dates at least as far back as the 1990s, relies on an 1805 law banning “unnatural copulation,†a vague term prosecutors have interpreted to include anal and oral sex. According to ColorLines magazine, of the 863 people on the city’s sex offender list, 483 were charged under the law, meaning most of New Orleans’ sex offenders aren’t rapists or child molesters but adults who engaged in consensual sex with other adults."
And it get's even worse. Read this link for more on this failure of government.

And if you research further you will find that many on the list are not even sex offenders. And some are just kids having consensual sex.
There is absolutely no need for this registration.
I would rather register rogue cops and rogue DAs than sex offenders.
"Cruel and unusual punishment"? Are the poor little sex offenders getting their little bitty feelings hurt. oh no. If there are registered sex offenders then they can't be near children. Which is a good thing. So, the only person that it would bother in the family is the person that is willing to live with the yucky person and they have to live with the consequence of doing so. Big deal.

Not sure where you are getting your information from, but that isn't the case. The rules vary from state to state, but no state law says registrants can't be "near children".

They can't be near facilities and or alone with children depending on the state, but there is no blanket rule on being around kids.
So those opposed to a list. Would you rather just cut their genitals off and tattoo there forehead with "sex offender"? Im ok with both...in fact I like cutting the goods off and tattooing them. They ruined the life of someone else therefore their life shold be ruined.
I for one appreciate the list because it comes in handy when looking to relocate. We saw many nice houses but when when looking at the registered sex offender list decided on other neighborhoods. Unfortunately there are some on the list that have had consentual sex and been convicted of sexual assault even though he may be 18 and she was 17. This instance should not be placed on the list, the rest of them, feed them to the wolves.
The fact that some people care for the welfare of these scumbags is beyond me. It doesnt effect you...let them suffer in any way possible.

Your justification for saying that every sex offender has "ruined someone's life" would be what, exactly?

Leaving aside the fact that many people do care personally about the welfare of RSOs--their family, friends, and in many cases even victims--a society that sows the wind of cruelty and brutality will reap the whirlwind.
