For the same reason that the Democlowns pushed the phony war on women crap...... do distract the American people

They both serve the same master.... and it isn't the American citizens

The GOP has not figured out, evidently, that they no longer need to kowtow to the evangelicals, who intimidated their own candidates into submission to their family values agenda back in the late 80s and 90s. These folks made it very clear that they had the numbers to either put someone in office or take them down.

It simply is not the case today, but candidates have not figured that out. Why, I am not sure.

I guess if I could see who is donating the big bucks to the party, then maybe I would have a clue as to why the GOP is continuing w/ the social issue policies that no longer match w/ the thinking of the majority of GOP members.

It reminds me of the Catholic church. The Pope won't bend on his birth control edicts or his no marriage for Priests . . . yet the majority of American church members use birth control and think Priests should marry. That doesn't mean that Catholics will leave their church . . . it just means the Vatican is out of step with the thinking of American Catholics.

I think the same thing has occurred w/ the bigwigs in the GOP.

I don't know. She sure didn't ask me my opinion. And she sure doesn't represent me.

People like Bachmann didn't get the memo that most of us feel a family, however defined, deserves the support of the community.

im sorry, last i checked Mrs. Bachmann is no longer running for President, having been rejected by the Republican rank and file.

back to the topic at hand. Democrats HAVE to run on the abortion issue because they are utterly flummoxed when trying to explain the economy.

Lets just lay out the abortion issue here. No matter what side you are on, these are the simple facts.

Democrats avocate for more killing of the unborn.
Republicans seek to find ways to save the unborn from that fate.

In fact, the 2012 GOP platform includes plenty of social-issue verbiage, including:

We reaffirm our support for a Constitutional amendment defining marriage as the union of one man and one woman.

We support the public display of the Ten Commandments as a reflection of our history and of our country’s Judeo-Christian heritage.

We support the First Amendment right of freedom of association of the Boy Scouts of America and other service organizations whose values are under assault and condemn the State blacklisting of religious groups which decline to arrange adoptions by same-sex couples.

We support a human life amendment to the Constitution and endorse legislation to make clear that the Fourteenth Amendment’s protections apply to unborn children.

We oppose using public revenues to promote or perform abortion or fund organizations which perform or advocate it and will not fund or subsidize health care which includes abortion coverage.

We support the appointment of judges who respect traditional family values and the sanctity of innocent human life.

We oppose federal funding of embryonic stem cell research.

We renew our call for replacing “family planning†programs for teens with abstinence education which teaches abstinence until marriage as the responsible and respected standard of behavior.

Now let's apply the "reality" filter.

Democrats advocate the preservation of a woman's right to choose whether to carry a pregnancy to term.
Republicans seek to find ways to remove that right.

Nicely said. To add to that:

Democrats care about the actual child's well-being once it is born.
Republicans ... well, we know how that one ends.

A woman's right to have her pre-baby chopped up into little pieces and sucked out should not be infringed. Do you really want people who would even consider such a thing raising children?
