Yes, low pay. You are so ignorant to think that teachers work only a 5.5 hours a day Your mentality can't comprehend that teachers spend their own money on their classroooms. Teachers spend hours at home working on the assignments for the next week. They spend hours grading papers.
Try teaching and come back to me with your assessment. Until then, you are just an uneducated observer who thinks he knows it all.

All jobs have their downside and low pay is BS, The teachers in my area with about 25 years in are making about $70K plus the $20K helath care package plus the pension plus.......

All told the job is worth $100k a year, that's not low pay.

My father retired from teaching Elementary levels all of his career at $90,000/yr. over 22 years ago.
That was just pay,ot including benefits.
Lifetime healthcare after that too
No, he was not in a well to do district either.

I don't know where teacher ranks but I can guarantee you it doesn't rank that high. You know what one of the most dangerous jobs in this country is? Store clerk. Another one in the top ten is driver.

Many professionals work far more than 8 hours at the office and still more at home.

Even twinkletoes said it wasn't right. I suppose union strikers are only okay when it's in some other guy's city.

You and your father benefitted and continue to benefit from the unions and yet you condemn the teachers union? Seems a bit hypocritical if you ask me.

How Much Do Chicago Public School Teachers Make? « CBS Chicago

A Chicago Public Schools spokesperson said average pay for teachers, without benefits, is $76,000.
Note the without benefits part. When you factor in the value of the health care and pension it's probably more like $100K

Default Chicago Teacher's Strike

This is not a smart move, certainly at this time. Some Unions do not get it. There complaint is about accurate problems, but the timing of the method of working on those, is awfully self-defeating. Poor Union Leadership in Chicago.
