It will not be historically accurate because nothing Hollywood has ever done has been historically accurate. Depending upon Spielberg's spin on Lincoln, I may watch it when it comes out on DVD.

Only a very FEW of them switched to the GOP, such as Strom Thurmond and Mills Godwin.And as we all know by now, the ONLY admitted former KKK member in Congress was Robert Byrd, a former KKK Kleagle, a recruiter who persuaded people to join the KKK.So where do we get this myth that "most" of the southern racist Democrats switched to the Republican party after 1964?
FACT.. Lincoln was a Republican and freed the slaves. Democrats sat back and talked about it and did nothing. The more things change the more they stay the same!

Too true. You have a lot of people on this board who believe that 1) Texas is now a Republican State (true), and 2) that it has been Republican since the Alamo (not true, or even close to it).
Anyway, I believe there was another Lincoln movie recently, where the President kills vampires or such. I would give it at least the same historical weight as Mr. Speilberg's movie.
I will see it ,if I have a chance .Otherwise,it is in the DVD list to rent.It is supposed to be based on Doris Kearns Goodwin's Team of Rivals.I am just beginning the book and, so far,it is an awesome read.The part that bothers me is at the end of the promo it says "based in part" so I wonder how much will be changed for a Hollywood ending? Not to much since the South lost the war,and Lincoln was killed in office.
