Computers take away jobs from real people. Nowadays, one single computer can do the job that would have taken hundreds...thousands...perhaps even millions of humans to do.

Given this fact, should they continue to be allowed by businesses in our country?

Government involvement with its archaic rules should be banned so business owners can decide how best to operate.

It's never been a question of putting people out of work, it's a question of freeing up people to do other types of work. The industrial revolution changed the way we approached trade and employment - the technical revolution has improved it. We shouldn't work harder, we should work smarter.

Or even better yet.

Dont spew idiotic proposals to make a point. It is stunning how many people do not believe in any kind of balance any more. They go to their left or right leaning message boards and have e-peen size contests to see who is the most holy for their cause. These are the same people running their respecive parties.

If there was no automation, you probably couldn't afford the keyboard you're typing on now.

This is possibly one of the most ridiculous thread premises posted on this forum, and that's saying something.

It's right up there with the one on making atheism illegal in the US.

Computers may mean less jobs, but it also increases the standard of living and how far your money goes through efficiency.

So now a refrigerator that my great grandparents thought "was out of their reach" because they couldn't afford it, is now affordable enough for every family to have, because of computers and automation.

So no, we shouldn't outlaw computers.

The automation revolution does bring with it some questions though. When we have machines doing more work, what will people do? Service industry is expanding, but people don't like servicing other people all the time. So we supplement their income with food stamps, and welfare, and tax breaks. But what is that getting us? I don't think we should cut out the social programs, but we should limit them to a bare substanance living standard to inspire people to work.

People are greedy, want lots of things. If you give them a home in the projects with a free TV, electricity, refrigerators, etc, they aren't going to work very hard. But if you keep them alive, and thats it, with no nice things, that means they'll find a way to get off their butts and work harder, or make more money to get those nice things.

Capitalism is the worst economic system we've found that works. We shouldn't let people die from being lazy, but we shouldn't make it easy to be lazy either.

No. Typically it just breeds criminals. Not passing judgment on social programs (or lack of), or on the people who need social programs, but chances are...
