These two ideologies are polar opposites in the ideological spectrum, but do they have any similarities? If so, where do they find common ground?

No. Socialists think the government is the big daddy for everyone...take care of everyone whether they want it or not. Now I have heard of Left Libertarians my brother is one...Libertarian socialism - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

personally I don't see how they call themselves libertarians because private property is one of the legs of libertarianism and they don't believe in that.

There is NO personal liberty in socialism/communism. Socialism is a first phase of communism (e.g. communal, collective) there is no place to individual freedoms in communist countries.

Which goes to show that Republicans calling liberals Socialists are so stupid, dishonest, or misinformed, that it hurts.

Most liberals are pro choice
Most liberals are pro legalilization of pot
Most liberals are for a completely secular government
