One of the cornerstones in the formation of the United States was the insistence of the separation of church and state in order to prevent the abuse and domination of government by religion as was done in Europe to the detriment of the people.
Today we as a people are faced with another relationship that has for the most part taken control of government away from the citizens once again. That relationship is between government and large corporations. Large corporations are the major source of campaign financing that politicians are completely dependent on for election. Few will argue that the election goes to who spends the most money.
In addition many laws and regulation that are supposed to protect citizens from corporate abuse are instead written by corporate lawyers for the benefit of those corporations to the detriment of citizens.
To take it a step farther, corporations now sponsor most of the research that goes on worldwide and by that sponsorship are able to control the findings of that research and use such research to influence public opinion, regulation, and education. If all of this were not enough, corporation routinely shuffle their executive personnel from top corporate offices to government regulatory positions to write regulations and back again.
The Supreme Court has ruled that corporations are artificial persons, and subject to the same rights as natural persons. As a result, corporations are free to use their massive bankrolls to get just about anything they want as can be witnessed by the current fiscal policies.
At this point the only way all this abuse will end will be through a Constitutional Amendment that prevents the kind of abuses that are bankrupting our country and turning citizens into subjects with no say in their own self-determination.

I am all for legislation that would prohibit any and all involvement in the political arena by corporations.
But I would go a big step further. Even if this were accomplished, mega-corporations would still be a threat to American national interests if only due to their means of sucking and funneling vast sums of American wealth to other nations. This threat must be ended and thus it is high time we question the very existence of such organizations.
Huge corporations have no loyalty whatsoever to the country at their foundation and today are enemies of the state....it's just that simple. And that fact has nothing to do with liberal/conservative, R or D. More and more Americans are waking up to this cold, hard truth and it is time we did something about it.
The executives in the corporations would still have immense power because they would still have the $$$ to influence elections. Would you be in favor of putting a cap on individual contributions?
I am surprised that we don't see bumper stickers that read..."Abolish Science"
